Course description

The Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing: Module 2 focuses on developing your versatility as a climber. You will learn not only new techniques for specific situations, but also how to train and develop your skills, and how to set yourself up for success on a climb. The module is also an opportunity to further practice and master the safety procedures learned in Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing: Module 1

If completed together with Module 1, the student earns a certificate of completion recognized by the state mountain federation (FEMERJ). Together, the two courses satisfy the pre-requesites of many of our other courses, such as Multi-Pitch Lead Climbing, and allow the student to participate in our guided climbs

The course is 100% practical - you will learn all concepts on the rock and immediately have the opportunity to practice them

What you will learn

  • Review of essential climbing skills, procedures and knots

  • Chimney climbing techniques

  • Friction climbing techniques

  • Sport climbing and technique training

  • Long day multi-pitch: preparation and execution

  • Sport ethics

Who it is for

Beginner climbers that have completed Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing: Module 1 and experienced climbers looking to refine their techniques in the specific contexts covered in the course

Pre-requisites

Students should have completed Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing: Module 1 or have comparable prior experience

The course is best suited for adults and teenagers over 13 years of age, as the student will need to belay an adult instructor and general similarity in weight is required. A child that is well below an adult weight would not be able to safely belay an adult partner. However, a child could take the course if they sign up together with an adult who would belay during the lessons

Duration

Four half-day private or semi-private lessons (up to 4 students per instructor)

You choose the day and time of each of your lessons - can be during the week, the weekend or on a holiday!

Location

Module 2 lessons take place in the neighbourhoods of Urca (home to some of the most beautiful climbing walls and mountains in Rio de Janeiro including the Sugarloaf), Cantagalo and Humaitá (to climb on the Contraforte do Corcovado). Your instructor will select the route for each of your lessons, taking into consideration the lesson content, your skill level and the day's climbing conditions
