30-minute trail hike from our meeting point
Return from the summit by cable car and trail
We meet at Praça General Tibúrcio in Urca and follow a 30-minute approach trail to the base of Sugarloaf’s west face. Before leaving the ground, your guide reviews the communication systems and the flow of the ascent, ensuring that everyone feels clear, prepared, and aligned for an efficient day on the wall.
Typically, your guide leads all pitches. However, there may be opportunities for you to lead if this is of interest and you demonstrate readiness to do so. Any participation in leading is discussed and agreed upon with your guide on the day of the climb.
Italianos is climbed over nine sustained pitches that reward solid technique and efficient transitions. The sustained nature of the route makes it especially appealing to climbers who enjoy continuous, engaging terrain rather than short crux sections separated by easier ground. The climbing is remarkably consistent in character, allowing you to settle into the rhythm of multi-pitch progression — climbing, belaying, and communicating clearly throughout the ascent.
After completing the final pitches, we arrive at the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain. Following time to rest, take photos, and enjoy the panoramic views, we descend comfortably by cable car to Morro da Urca, and then return to our starting point via an easy trail.
